About Moi

Basic: Native Pennsylvanian who loves going down the shore and to New Hope, who lives on the Main Line, and who likes to travel, as long as I can come home to my lovely Penn's Woods.

My faux boyfriends include: James Dean (yes, I know he's dead), John Cusack, Oliver Platt, Alan Alda, Albert Finney, Ethan Hawke and Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

Cool girls: Julie Delpy, Tori Amos, Kelly Clarkson, Indigo Girls.

My favorite writers: Shakespeare, Emerson, Whitman, Faulkner, Jackson (see Shirley), Bank (that's Melissa), John Steinbeck and Haven Kimmel.

Food loves: Oreo blizzards from Dairy Queen, HOAGIES (do NOT say sub to me), crab legs, filet mignon with a lovely lobster tail, sweetened black iced tea, oh, and Cheez-Its.

Things I do for fun: take photos; drive around while playing music entirely too loud and singing along even louder; collect Oscar the Grouch items; dance around my house wildly; wait patiently for the mailman to come to see if he brought me anything fun; write letters; send cards (sensing a theme here...); shop online and through QVC; organize my desk and files (that is, too, fun!); watch movies; see plays/musicals; watch figure skating, gymnastics and tennis; and laugh out loud, frequently at myself.

Favorite movies: Gone with the Wind, Say Anything, Clockwatchers, Pieces of April, East of Eden, If Lucy Fell, A Mighty Wind, Same Time Next Year, The Outsiders, Little Miss Sunshine, Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, 2 Days in Paris, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead.

Favorite music: Green Day, Indigo Girls, Linda Eder, Kelly Clarkson, The Hooters, 80s.

Miscellany loves: rainy days, nerds, Staples -- That Was Easy!, and of course, stationery supplies.

Odd facts:

* I quit cheerleading to focus on my schoolwork at age 9. I am nerd-o, hear me... recite the Declaration of Independence from memory.

* I win small contests (jellybean counting, send in a zillion postcards to get free tickets) at an alarming rate, but have never won the big lotto drawing.

* I have met various members of my teen-angst-I-LOVE-THEM-SO-MUCH 80s favorite The Hooters, several times. If only I could meet Mr. Cusack...

* I'm an Aries (and I'm one of those horoscope believers... well, when it's right anyway).

* My favorite Muppet is Rowlf the dog.

* I don't name my cars, they tell me their names, when they're ready (you know, like pets do... what? Yours don't?). My current car is RAV-i-oli.

* Cupcakes. There's nothing better than cupcakes. And Dunkin' Donuts glazed. Yummy.

* I am, uh, unique. :-)

There's more (that's more about me re: writing) here.

Movie Mania!
Featuring the TLJ-
Roger Ebert 4-star system.
Usually, Rog and I agree. Usually.

The Dark Knight
TLJ: 3.5 stars
Ebert: 4 stars
I agree, it's an "engrossing tragedy." A great film that makes you think.

I Love You, Man
TLJ: 3 stars
Ebert: 3.5 stars
I liked it, too, Rog, but not as much as you. Yes, you're right -- Jason Segel is my new favorite guy though I do still love my Paul Rudd, too. I laughed enough that I was happy I rented it. Corny, silly, but smart in places, too.

Ballerina
TLJ: 2.5 stars
Ebert: No review online
This movie followed the ballerinas of the Russian Kirov and other ballets from youth to company. I liked learning how much the dancers sacrificed, how perfectionistic they are (even more than they're teachers and choreographers), and how dedicated, but what was missing? Dancing! They kept teasing me with brief pieces from various ballets. I wanted to see more of the payoff of their hard work.
