Random Thoughts Thursday

A "consumer-oriented" edition

* I received a shipment from a Big & Noted bookstore. All four items in the box were damaged. Uh, hello! They're gifts. I can't give them with crushed corners and the one thing's box is ripped in a way that it didn't happen during shipping.

* This reminds me of the time I received worn shoes from a local department store.

* Guess I'll have to drag out the ol' wicked, yet nice consumer complaint letter that gets me results EVERY time.

* I say every time because apparently, workers aren't trained in the art of customer service anymore, so I get to use the letter frequently.

* "A Good Year" is a rarity in Hollywood, a "good film." I spent yesterday afternoon with Russell Crowe. It was enjoyable.

* I only had to shhhhhhh some seniors once.

* Sometime this weekend, I'll spend some time with my new TV boyfriend, Taye Diggs, watching his new show, which I DVRed last night.

* Don't worry. Jack Bauer is still my number one TV boyfriend. He is. Ladies! Back off!

* I could have worn shorts to the movies yesterday. If I wanted warmth in November, I'd move to California.

* Where is fall? Who do I send the letter to about not having an Autumn? I want my money back.

* Oh, yeah, it's free. Oops.

* 100-Calorie Keebler Fudge Stripe cookies are the bomb, or da bomb, as cool people say.

* I bought a book of stamps and can't find them. Anybody seen them?

* I know, the minute I stop looking or buy another book, they'll appear.

* Why doesn't that work with hundred dollar bills?

* To recap: bookstore online purchases going back; Russell Crowe is a hottie, as is Taye Diggs and, of course, Kiefer Sutherland; Delaware is too hottie for Fall; cookies = da bomb; stamps MIA; and post ends here.

* No, there won't be a quiz later.

Movie Mania!
Featuring the TLJ-
Roger Ebert 4-star system.
Usually, Rog and I agree. Usually.

The Dark Knight
TLJ: 3.5 stars
Ebert: 4 stars
I agree, it's an "engrossing tragedy." A great film that makes you think.

I Love You, Man
TLJ: 3 stars
Ebert: 3.5 stars
I liked it, too, Rog, but not as much as you. Yes, you're right -- Jason Segel is my new favorite guy though I do still love my Paul Rudd, too. I laughed enough that I was happy I rented it. Corny, silly, but smart in places, too.

Ballerina
TLJ: 2.5 stars
Ebert: No review online
This movie followed the ballerinas of the Russian Kirov and other ballets from youth to company. I liked learning how much the dancers sacrificed, how perfectionistic they are (even more than they're teachers and choreographers), and how dedicated, but what was missing? Dancing! They kept teasing me with brief pieces from various ballets. I wanted to see more of the payoff of their hard work.
